It’s Your Move

God is on the move.

In this generation as much as any other. Those who seek for Him will find Him. As our pastor reminded us, “God responds to the posture of the human heart.” Those who reach towards God are the ones who experience the move of His presence. And those who don’t may miss it entirely.

One glance at our towering Georgia pine trees illustrates it. They sway and bend, noticeably responsive to the leading of the wind. But let our gaze travel down to the surrounding bushes, the yard flags, the grass... And they are still. Surrounded by houses and hills, the wind has been stifled. From the ground’s perspective, there is no movement. Things are untouched and unchanged.

Rise a little higher, though, and it’s a different story. There’s no competition up there. The wind is completely in control.

Same location, different reach. Same place, vastly different experience. Those towering pines have extended themselves beyond all the hindrances, above anything that would block out the wind’s effect. The reward of their efforts upward is an atmosphere unlike anything on the ground. The pines made a move upward. And they are in the middle of a move, even when nothing below is.

All through history, God has moved and some were completely unaware, oblivious and unaffected. They were in the place where God showed up, but never touched Him. They were close to God but never reached for God. That reality has never changed. Even in a church that has been experiencing mighty moves of God, it is still a possibility. Attendance does not guarantee experience.

Every Pentecost has its spectators. It’s very possible to be present, and not participating. An upper room atmosphere must be met by a heart hungry for the Holy Ghost. To experience a move of God, our hearts must make a move towards Him.

God is on the move at our church. God is on the move in our families, in our prayer lives, in our altars.

Make an intentional effort to reach beyond distractions. Focus more attention on what God is trying to do, than what may be going on around us. Before we find ourselves in the altar on Sunday, let’s turn our hearts upward on Thursday. Move towards Him.

God is on the move, and we don’t have to miss it.
