The Heart With An Open Door

Sunday’s message was a beautiful reminder of the heart of the Father: “God has always pursued a house.” God’s desire is more than just a building among His people, but a home where He is welcomed. God seeks a church with open doors. This is not just something that we accomplish on Sundays and Wednesdays. The truth is that a church with an open door is built of people with open hearts. God’s presence floods the building when He has a personal, intimate relationship with the individual people inside.

So then, we open the doors of Savannah Holy Church of God not just by what we do in services, but by how we invite God into our daily lives.

None of us would take kindly to rooms being made “off limits” in our own house. It wouldn’t sit well with us to have drawers we weren’t allowed to open, or closets we couldn’t use. There may be unspoken boundaries when you stay in a guest room, but things are different at home. There are no closed doors at home.

And if we want God’s presence to saturate our lives, and by extension our church, we must start by opening doors.

Our deepest desires and greatest fears cannot be hidden away. Unresolved questions and seeds of bitterness cannot be thrown in a back room with a “Do Not Enter” sign on the door. God must have access to every part of us. Every area of our thought life and our motives must be open to Him.

There can be nothing He can’t see.

There can also be nothing He can’t change. The longer you live in your house, the more like you it becomes. You change paint colors, decor, and furniture based on what you like. And for God to have an open door in our hearts, He makes the decisions on what stays and what goes. With every change, minor or major, the house looks more and more like Him.

An open door on Sunday begins with an open heart on Saturday. The presence of God on Wednesday comes when He’s been invited in on Tuesday. Let’s take inventory today of any areas of our hearts that we may have restricted access to. Honestly recognize and repent if there are areas where we have resisted His efforts to change us. Then we can come into God’s house on Sunday echoing what our hearts have cried every other day of the week as well: “The door is open wide- Come on in.”
